When I try to use Partition Magic in windoze, I get error message "init failed ERR 116 I checked the manual and possible cause is that hard-disk geometry is different than the geometry in use when the partition table was written.
The above partition table is correct. I have no problem with linux. windoze 95 also works.
When I go to change the Award bios, for both hda & hdb, the CHS is 1024, 255, 63. When I try to change the cylinders to agree with the above table, the bios will not accept the correct values of 1653 $ 2434 for hda & hdb resp. The bios also indicates the maximum LBA values for hda & hdb as 13000 MEG & 20000 MEG which are correct. This bios always recognized automatically the hd geometry when I switched hd's on my slave which is a removable caddy from the front. Now it doesn't do that.
All this problem started when I tried to install Corel Linux 1.2 evaluation cd. I had empty space on my hdb13 and it formatted the partition. It also changed hda to add a boot partition hda6 and renamed all my partitions in hda. I know that you should not mix linux fdisk and PM but I didn't think it would cause PM not working.
The main question is how do you change the bios to accept the right values.

Chapter 2 of partition problems. I neglected to state that hda7, hda11 and hda12 are SuSE 6.3, 6.4 & 7.0 resp that is why I'm here, the best list server around. I removed my 20 GIG slave drive from the front removable bay and installed my old 2 GIG drive and the bios recognized the 2 GIG drive. After I reinstalled the 20 GIG drive, Partition Magic 4.0 now works using the emergency floppy of PM but still doesn't work on my master 13 GIG drive. I get error 116. PM only works from the floppy, it still doesn't work when I run it from the desktop in win 95. I get error 986, init failed. The following info I got when I click the info button using PM floppy: Master drive: Partition Type: Bad Serial No: None First Physical Sector: 0 (cyl 0, hd 0, sect 1) <----- is this the problem? Last Physical Sector: 26,555,444 (cyl 1652, hd 254, sect 63) Total Physical Sectors: 26,555,445 ( 12,966.5 MB) Physical Geometry: 1,653 cyls, 255 hds, 63 sects --------------------------------------- Slave drive: Partition Type: 0B (HEX) fat32 Used: 1,215 MB 58% Serial No: 3A63-8959 Free: 879 MB 42% First Physical Sector : 63 ( cyl 0, hd 1, sect 1) Last Physical Sector: 4,289,354 (cyl 266, hd 254, sect 63) Total Physical Sectors: 4,289,292 (2,094.4 MB) Physical Geometry : 2,434 cyls, 255 hds, 63 sects The Physical Geometry for both drives seems ok.
