Hey Group; I am runing 9.2 and have had similar problems with USB on my HD device. I have found lsusb see it but SuSE claims it is not a block device. I have found a work around for it and that is to mount the device within about 5 minute after it has booted and I have logged in as root. It is very predictable and solved the headach. Remeber the power to the HD must be on during the bootup. Turning it on after bootup seem to only once in a while work. Also hwinfo finds it when mounted but not when it is unmounted. For me it is a SuSE problem Sid Boyce wrote:

/proc/bus/usb/ is empty. If nothing else I'd expect to see the built-in USB ports. Yes, the usb core stuff should show up Is the module for the usb hub loaded? Thie would be one of the modules from kernel/drivers/usb/host in the module directory for the kernel (which one depends on your chipset) Well spotted, I just looked at a previous copy of lsmod I saved away and did a modprobe of some, this is how it now looks, I thought it looked a bit light. I now have to figure out why they are not being loaded.
