Which version do you have? I am using the one with kde 3.2 (SuSE 8.2), and it does list /dev/ttyUSB0. Maybe you could leave the internal ttySHSF0 linked to modem and use USB0 for the external. It should work.
I am on SuSE 9 Pro, and the USB0 is not in there. The closest I can find as an 'ACM' something-or-other listed but not USB0. Currently, I have two really simple scripts I can call for which modem I need/want to use. It's just a little hassle, that's all. ...CH
