Ken,
A new twist. I finally got Suse 10 to install by changing the boot loader from GRUB to LILO! Does it seem to you to suggest a problem with GRUB and SATA drives??
Here is a summary of what I did...
- normal install failed with "GRUB Loading stage1.5." on initial boot after the CD1 install.
- Successful FreeDOS install and hard drive boot.
- successful Suse 10 install when I disconnected the 80gig SATA drive and connected a 6 gig drive to IDE2
- Successful install when using LILO in place of GRUB
I could install suse using grub when I used an IDE drive but GRUB crashed when installing to a SATA drive.
I'm still a little concerning that I can not use GRUB. Should I be?
Anyway, concerning my fstat. I wasn't sure if I could send an attachment through the mailing list so below is a copy...
/dev/sda2 / reiserfs acl,user_xattr 1 1
/dev/sda1 swap swap defaults 0 0
proc /proc proc defaults 0 0
sysfs /sys sysfs noauto 0 0
usbfs /proc/bus/usb usbfs noauto 0 0
devpts /dev/pts devpts mode=0620,gid=5 0 0
/dev/cdrecorder /media/cdrecorder subfs noauto,fs=cdfss,ro,procuid,nosuid,nodev,exec,iocharset=utf8 0 0
/dev/fd0 /media/floppy subfs noauto,fs=floppyfss,procuid,nodev,nosuid,sync 0 0
none /subdomain subdomainfs noauto 0 0
Thank you very much for your help!

I have heard of others having problems using grub and switching to lilo to solve their problems. It seems as though the /boot/initrd file was not getting created correctly when using grub. Enjoy. -- Ken Schneider UNIX since 1989, linux since 1994, SuSE since 1998
