Guys, I have a strange problem with 11.3. I can't start compiz in kde3, but it runs fine in gnome or kde4. The error given each time in .xsession-errors is: compiz (core) - Error: Another window manager is already running on screen: 0 compiz (core) - Fatal: No manageable screens found on display :0.0 Now in the past, this mean somebody had done something stupid and turned of the desktop/behavior "Show icons on Desktop", but I know that one and the checkbox is there. So I've tried packages from both X11/Compiz and X11/XGL, but no help, same result. Each time you attempt to start compiz, you get those two lines above added to your .xsession-errors file. I've tried both with fusion-icon and with compiz-manager. Unfortunately, compiz-manager did not start compiz, but it did activate KDE4 desktop effects in KDE3 -- that was a trick. I guess it just started kde4 as a fall-back. I've tried with compiz-kde4 and compiz-manager removed from the system (that used to help), but no joy. The strange part is compiz works well in both gnome and kde4. So I know it works and I don't have a hardware/driver/xorg settings issue. I'm stumped. What say the experts? cc: Dominique L.
