I have two frustrating, possibly related problems with internet access and my internal network. I have a desktop and laptop connected by an internal network with internet access by an adsl modem connected to the desktop. For the most part this works fine except: 1) On startup of the desktop, both cards seem to be logically connected to the adsl modem. The internal network doesn't work (I can't ping the laptop from the desktop or vice-versa.) The only way I've found around this is to temporarily disable the network card attached to the modem with ifconfig. I can then ping the laptop, and still can after re-enabling the modem connected card. This generally works fine once started, and thanks to the basic stability I don't have to reboot too often, but it would be nice to have the system come up correctly. 2) I can access almost everything on the web except addresses which start with 192.x.x.x. I'm using 192.168.1.1/2 for the internal network, which is one of the recommended private address groups. I noticed an occasional site which I couldn't access, and finally found that all of them started with 192. The most recent example is the Sun site (192.18.97.241) where I wanted to get the latest Staroffice. Any hints for either or both problems greatly appreciated! Bernie w1az@arrl.net
