i have compiled pidentd latest version but i can't get it to autostart

i have compiled pidentd, latest officail version and it has placed the executable in /user/local/bin unfortunately when i try to add a system service the console gives me an error every time i boot. i have it set to identd tcp nowait root /usr/local/sbin identd i've also tried the same with /usr/local/sbin ./identd and also tried the same switching the root user to ident user (ident is the username if one of two users on my box, being, root and ident) everytime i boot i get an error message saying unable to start or recognize system service. its driving me nuts. the installation instructions were very unclear on how this was done even the directories didn't match up with SuSE 8.0. any help appreciated thanks
