Hi All & fellow Hellene, Panos, who wrote: <snip>
I know that this list may not be the best place to post my message, but I am going to do it, hoping that somebody has had the same problem in the past & knows how to solve it. I run SuSe Linux, Rel.6.3, on an IBM ThinKpad 770z laptop computer with 128 Mb of RAM. I recently discovered that half of my memory was not used by the OS & tried to resolve this by using advise from the SuSe Support DataBase (subject 'SDB-maddin_memory1'). I only got close to it, I have not been able to resolve it completely. I am now using 112Mb of my memory by adding the line 'append="mem=112M"' in my lilo.conf file but, whenever I change this to 'append="mem=128M"', my system fails to boot.
I have recently ordered an additional 256Mb of RAM to install in the machine & they will be on my front-door anyday now. I fear that I will not be able to use this additional memory because of this problem. I am going to upgrade to Suse Linux, Rel.6.4, within the weekend, but I don't really see how this will help. I also installed RedHat 6.2 on a temporary partition & got exactly the same results.
Has anybody seen this in the past?
<snip> That is odd, I loaded 6.3 "evaluation" onto my Gateway Solo 9300SL & it found all of my 128 megs of ram, with no append steps... Mandrake 7, spotted the ram too & the sound card, but that is another story.... ;-) Try this place, I see your machine up their & they may have some extra tips, perhaps you could even contact them personally? http://www.cs.utexas.edu/users/kharker/linux-laptop/ *BFN* Haralambos, aka, Greek Geek :-) Suburbia: where they tear out the trees & then name streets after them. -- To unsubscribe send e-mail to suse-linux-e-unsubscribe@suse.com For additional commands send e-mail to suse-linux-e-help@suse.com Also check the FAQ at http://www.suse.com/Support/Doku/FAQ/
