I bought it to edit digital images (nikon 5200), capture movies from my camcorder (canon zr-85) and play newer games like fifa 05/06 -- it coincided with the "dead" of my sisters-in-law's box (pcchips 810, duron 800). suse_gasjr4wd@mac.com escreveu:

I'm building a new box also... Can I ask why you chose those items?
(I hear the gigabyte motherboards are good, and the 64-bit 2800+ is a decent chip, but I don't have anything to compare it to personally)
Personally, I prefer MSI, Gigabyte or Abit instead Asus, pc chips, ECS, etc. As I found a Gigabyte model (K8VM800M) with video and sound chipset on-board (it also has an AGP slot, of course) at my city with a good price, I didn't exitate and bought it: i) it is cheaper than celeron ii) the chipset inside is from VIA (I think it's better than SiS and not so expensive as nVidia) iii) it has compatibility with my elected processor, AMD Sempron 2800+, 1.6GHz, with 256Kb Cache L2, stepping E6 (OPN BX, this means you are sure that you have 64-bit activated resources), etc. http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/details.aspx?opn=SDA2800AIO3BX http://www.giga-byte.com/Motherboard/Support/CPUSupportList/CPUSupportList_G... ...you can compare it with another Sempron processors: http://www.amdcompare.com/us-en/desktop/ ...or you can see benchmarks http://www.amd.com/br-pt/Processors/ProductInformation/0,,30_118_11599_11605... iv) it is on the list "recommended motherboards" to sempron from AMD's website: http://www2.amd.com/br-pt/Processors/TechnicalResources/1,,30_182_869_11521%... http://www2.amd.com/br-pt/recmobo/ResultsHandler/1,,30_182_869_11521%5E11522... v) you can compare it with another motherboards to socket 754 at: http://www.dealtime.com http://www.tigerdirect.com ...or even with via chipset-based motheboards. There you can choice your motherboard -- they will tell you how much slots the mobos have. Slackware 10.1 supports it: it is just working fine, video, sound, everything. SuSE is nomore running well. I will follow the advises of Felix Miata and Hans du Plooy. Adagilson
I'm looking for something with onboard 10/100/1000 nic, at least 4 PCI slots, and at least 3 gig ram max. I'm not sure how much the 64 bit would help a file server...
By their site, they only have two Linux boards.
