That's it, no sound at all. Hardware is the same. On 42.3 it worked perfectly; nothing now.
YaST produces no sound after going through the configuration.
The mixer says there is no card to configure.
[Much binned]
You say "mixer" -- do you mean alsamixer?
I don't know, it doesn't say. The applet says "audio mixer", the window says "Volume control".
If not then run alsamixer as user on a command line and see (using F6) that there is a card available.
cer@Telcontar:~> alsamixer ALSA lib conf.c:3943:(snd_config_update_r) Cannot access file /etc/alsa-pulse.conf ALSA lib control.c:1375:(snd_ctl_open_noupdate) Invalid CTL default cannot open mixer: No such file or directory cer@Telcontar:~> cer@Telcontar:~> l /etc/alsa-pulse.conf ls: cannot access '/etc/alsa-pulse.conf': No such file or directory cer@Telcontar:~>
(You haven't selected the card on the mobo. which you have deactivated in the Bios? Just wondering...)
I did nothing. Just "zypper dup" to 15.0 from 42.3
The relevant line seems to be:
<1.3> 2019-01-10 19:47:43 Telcontar pulseaudio 5099 - - [pulseaudio] module.c: Failed to load module "module-alsa-card" (argument: "device_id="0" name="pci-0000_03_00.0" card_name="alsa_card.pci-0000_03_00.0" namereg_fail=false tsched=yes fixed_latency_range=no ignore_dB=no deferred_volume=yes use_ucm=yes card_properties="module-udev-detect.discovered=1""): initialization failed.
Aaah, that pulseaudio ... love it or hate it, it will be there... Don't forget pulseaudio sits ontop of alsa so do the alsamixer thing.
I have had pulseaudio running on this computer since I bought it on Dec 2009.
Oh, when you click on the Speaker (bottom right on taskbar --ie, if you do have this speaker) is the volume set to more than 0?
All volumes are set above zero. -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.0 x86_64 at Telcontar)
