[12-26-02 20:59]: The one useful piece of software not included with SuSE 8.1 is kpackage. I tried XMIN and other similar packages but none are as good as kpackage, in my opinion.
Downloading Kpackage as source and RPM has not been a successful experience.
However, after a lot of trial and error, there is a package that can be installed to provide this useful tool. It is called "kdeadmin3-3.0.4-0.i586.rpm". Although the site from which this package was downloaded cannot be remembered, a search on google should help to locate this package. The file size is 1 MB.
Hope this helps to anyone trying to find kpackage for use on SuSE 8.1.
Kpackage _is_ included with 8.1 pro, it's just not on the cd/dvd media. :: /var/lib/YaST2/you/i386/update/8.1/rpm/i586/kdeadmin3-3.0.4-6.i586.patch.rpm
it's part of YOU update process.
Well, I've been using SuSE since 7.1 and every version since and kpackage has always been a part of the included packages. And kdeadmin has been integrated into yast2 for a while now. I have had no problems with if in a long while. Earlier versions, I think since the 0.x version, had some glitches but it's fairly steady. I'm not sure you have looked at all the packages, there are over 1800 of them, put aside the defaults and system required packages and there's an awful lot of optional stuff one can decide to install. I usually find that using YaST and then looking under the "group" settings for packages show that there is a huge number of packages to pick from. I would suggest doing something like this. Then if the versions supplied by SuSE are current you can get the update rpm and do a "-Uhv" and get the packages up to date. Just seems like a lot of work to install from scratch when the package is already on the disk. Cheers, Curtis. :)
