Hello, I am setting up my firewall, and I was just wondering if there was any tool like the 'Shields Up' utility at grc.com that I could use to scan my system to get an idea of where to go next. Any preferred way of doing this? Would the grc.com thing works fine, or is there a better way? Thanks in advance, AA
nmap comes with the distribution. There are other tools like saint, too.
Nessus (http://www.nessus.org/) is also very useful (also comes with 7.2, although the version is an oldish one) - run it on yourself, and it will give you a list of vulnerabilities, how dangerous they are, and a suggested method for fixing each one. If you're using nmap on yourself, use the -v option to get as much information as you can from the scan. cheers, Gideon.
