I partitioned my 13 Gig hd using Partition Magic 4.0 and installed my 3rd SuSe linux, 6.3 using yast1. SuSe is by far the best distribution. I have only a few questions:
1. I get this message when I use fdisk:
The number of cylinders for this disk is set to 1653. There is nothing wrong with that, but this is larger than 1024, and could in certain setups cause problems with: 1) software that runs at boot time (e.g., LILO) 2) booting and partitioning software from other OSs (e.g., DOS FDISK, OS/2 FDISK)
/dev/hda2 is my /boot and it is below the 1024 boundary so I don't think I have a problem.
I would agree with you here, this is not a problem since your /boot is below cylinder 1024.
2. as shown below, /dev/hda4 is a Win95 Ext'd (LBA) I installed SuSe with no problems. Being a Win95 extended partition, could this cause a problem and should I change it to a linux extended using linux fdisk. I read in this group that you should't mix PM and fdisk.
Just leave the extended partition as a Windows 95 extended - it shouldn't cause any problems. In fact, I don't think there is such a thing as a Linux extended partition. And you're correct in that you shouldn't usually mix PM and Linux fdisk.
