I am having the same problem, but I know it has to do with an adaptec 7896 SCSI controller in my box. I have not been able to install anything later than 7.0. I've tried the aicxxx_old fix SUSE has told me to try and it is for nothing. Allen Jones

When I got to the "Detecting Hard Disk Controllers" message, my mouse pointer became extremely slow to respond to mouse movement. By the time all hardware was detected and it was time to move to the next step, both the keyboard and mouse were 100% unresponsive.
