Which means that your system *really* needs swap. The thread is long, I still have not seen your figures.
But as far as I can see from what I have read so far, attempts to reduce swapines will make the situation worse in your case.
And yes, your system bogs down as more swap is used, because modern swap can not cope when set on rotating rust. You need to move it to an SSD disk.
I have mentioned memory & swap usage a couple of times. When I posted yesterday, with: "I'm running 15.1 & KDE. One thing I've noticed is swap use increases through time, even though I'm not even using all the real memory. Eventually, it gets to the point where my system bogs down and can become unusable. At the moment, I'm running 13.6 GiB of 15.6 memory and 4.1 of 24 swap. Why should swap be used at all, when there's still a significant amount of free memory? " I was runnig VirtualBox, which is configured to use 8 GB. At the moment, I'm not running it and seeing 6.9 GiB of memory and 0.5 swap. Last night, after rebooting, it was less than 4 GiB memory and no swap. So, just sitting there overnight, both memory and swap increased. If I leave things running, both will climb. As for browsers, I use both Chromium and Firefox, as I find one or the other is often better for certain things. That said, I will often open and close Firefox windows several times over thc course of the day. I also have several sites I leave up all the time, in both browsers. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
