Thus your system is not locked: it is only the graphic session that is locked, or perhaps the keyboard/mouse. If that's the case, probably nothing you try tuning the kernel will help. Your best bet is the nvidia commercial driver, and the best thing is NOT using the commercial driver at all - at least in order to find out if it is the culprit.
