er, somehow I don't see that comparing to: rcxdm restart or: systemctl restart xdm.service
Init 1 takes the system to a very minimal level, with no desktop or networking.
ps: no need to comment if not attempting proposed solution.
I just tried that now and it did work, though the main desktop has shifted from Ctl-Alt-F7 to F8.
I tried init 1/init 5 again and it broke again. I then rebooted the computer and it works OK now.
Yes, the point is restarting xdm. Once you quit xdm (init 1) you loose what you gained by "rcxdm restart". This is *not* a solution, but a work-a-round/?cludge?. And the *next* time you boot, you may/probably will experience the same problem. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA HOG # US1244711 http://wahoo.no-ip.org Photo Album: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/gallery2 http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member Registered Linux User #207535 @ http://linuxcounter.net -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
