Hello, this is really not a question but more of an answer in case any of you run into this situation.
whenever i am running kde after a few days plasma-desktop grows to take well over 1gb ram and 1gb swap and kwin over around 500Mb and i have to restart x. recently i started an application in console that i need to run for a few days(if not weeks). but like i said plasma-desktop and kwin were taking so much memory the system became extremely unresponsive.
well here is the solution i have found:
for kwin(kinda obvious but i didn't think of it at first):
kwin --replace &
plasma-desktop: kquitapp plasma-desktop && sleep 20s && plasma-desktop &
if plasma desktop doesn't start wait for a few more seconds and type plasma-desktop&
other than that this is imo a huge bug that needs fixing. if anyone has any other way of making plasma-desktop ,kwin and also xorg take much less memory then please share.
p.s.: firefox is another memory hog too. but i couldn't find any solution(i've even tried a custom compiled firefox.
Which KDE version did you find this in? I haven't noticed this, but the longest I run anything is on the order of 2 or 3 days. -- _____________________________________ ---This space for rent--- -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse+help@opensuse.org
