In Thunderbird it *IS* necessary to subscribe to 'other' folders.
It isn't.
I know this because I've set up a scheme similar to what you describe but for 'people' rather than year.
Actually I have many accounts and on mailing list accounts like this one, yes I do archive by year as you describe.
And YES USING THUNDERBIRD YOU HAVE TO EXPLICITLY SUBSCRIBE TO THOSE FOLDERS.
Not! ;-) When you make a directory "foo", you are immediately subscribed to "foo". When you move a message to the archive for the first time, it is placed in a new directory. It has the name of the month, or the year, or 'other' - this depends on your preferences/options for archives. And yes, you are immediately subscribed to them. So Anton, obviously there is a not so obvious difference between your Thunderbird (setup) and mine... Could it depend on the mailserver?
