Hi All, I have a MSI VIA KM400A mother board with sata support. I have 2 ATA drives connected to IDE0, 2 cdrom drives connected to IDE1 and 1 SATA drive. I am using suse 9.1. The problem is my dvd writer does not get detected. The only way for me to get the dvd writer detected is to boot off the 9.1 dvd from the dvd writer -> boot from hard drive. in /proc/ide i see the links to the hard drives and cdrom drives but the link to the dvd writer is not there. But when i boot off the dvd it will be created. What creates the ide under proc? I also ran hwinfo and i get the following for my dvd write: 43: IDE 06.0: 10602 CD-ROM (DVD-RAM) [Created at block.194] Unique ID: _jAI.4o0wexCLGnD Parent ID: rKvl.mcsZ0a690T4 SysFS ID: /block/hdg SysFS BusID: 3.0 SysFS Device Link: /devices/pci0000:00/0000:00:0f.1/ide3/3.0 Hardware Class: cdrom Model: "HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-4120B" Vendor: "HL-DT-ST" Device: "DVDRAM GSA-4120B" Revision: "A100" Serial ID: "K3G45S25406" Driver: "VIA IDE", "ide-cdrom" Device File: /dev/by-path/pci-0000:00:0f.1-ide-1:0 Device Files: /dev/hdg, /dev/by-path/pci-0000:00:0f.1-ide-1:0, /dev/by-id/HL-DT-ST_DVDRAM_GSA-4120_K3G45S2540 Device Number: block 34:0 Features: CD-R, CD-RW, DVD, DVD-R, DVDRAM Size: 8059968 sectors a 512 bytes Config Status: cfg=yes, avail=no, need=no, active=unknown Attached to: #19 (IDE interface) Why wont my dvd writer get detected when booting normaly?
