Maybe the repair boot logged itself in /root/inst-sys or somewhere in /var/log. I remember a lot of "Waiting for device /dev/blah to appear ... could not find /dev/blah" trouble during the 11.2 development period, so maybe a dig through Buzilla covering that period might help. It certainly would be good to know if you "advance" beyond 11.2.
