Indeed. For me, ext3 log replay takes seconds - but then, the periodic full checks at reboot can take ages
The checks are a good thing- a journaling FS does not really guarantee all data is secure (just meta-data). If you don't like it you can either increase the "maximum mount count" or disable it totally with tune2fs.
