Hardware: Video card: nVidia 6800 GT Monitor: Viewsonic P95f+ Before problem: Installed system on open source video drivers and set up display to run at 1600x1200x75 Hz. Even though this monitor is rated to do 1600x1200x85 Hz it won't display properly at this resolution, so I usually drop back to 75 Hz refresh. After install of 3D drivers from http://download.nvidia.com/novell (6.9.0 on 2006/08/13): Can select 1600x1200 resolution, but no matter what I try it is fixed at 85 Hz refresh. Since monitor fails to perform to spec this doesn't work, so I am forced to drop down to 1280x1024 resolution. Anybody have suggestions on what I can do to change the refresh rate? Already tried: 1. Select 'VESA' monitor with lower refresh rate in SaX2. 2. Change max refresh rate for the monitor in /etc/X11/xorg.conf. 3. Tried xvidtune, but errored out complaining about 'invalid display settings' even when I didn't try tuning anything. Also didn't seem to have the tunables I was looking for. 4. Tried nvclock program, but found it only seemed to deal with overclocking the GPU, not manipulating the RAMDAC. --Jason Snyder--
