Google is your friend:
training.dat -> junk system msgFilterRules.dat -> messages filters (oddly enough)
http://www.mozilla.org/mailnews/arch/filters/ http://www.mozilla.org/releases/mozilla1.7.13/installation.html http://www.mozilla.org/mailnews/arch/spam/
Yes, you are correct- msgFilterRules.dat is the one for filtering mail into "pigeon holes" and this one is editable.
That msgFilterRules.dat file is a ghastly file to edit though when I had a look at it. Isn't there a simpler way ie entering csv values into a test file.
I suspect that the filter file you now have has somehow got corrupted. Why not delete it and start from scratch?
And have to re type the details of over 100 filters, I DON"T THINK SO, period.
The other thing I've been wondering: do you really have to have a set of 100 filters to do your filtering? A single filter can contain more than one condition to test for, you know that don't you?
I know that Basil, but the problem is that I receive email from over 100 mailing lists where I might only be subscribed to 50. Having separate filters allows me to edit the message filter when the message received changes the data it was filtered on.
You have lost me here I am afraid. The way I read this is that you subscribe to only 50 mailing lists but in fact get unsolicited msgs from 100 lists. Sorry for the poor explanation, and my home language is even English, I am ashamed :)
Doesn't this mean that msgs from the 50-odd that you don't subscribe to can be regarded as JUNK or spam, and if so there is no need for a filter as the junk filter will take care of these- all you have to do is to train the junk filter. I would train one if I had one. The one I have is the default Mozilla mail 1.7.2 Junk mail console. It seems to pick up most SPAM but does miss a few. Hoping the new SuSE version will have a good GUI to spamassassin and clamav.
The second sentence of course brings up your original question about what to do about these msgs altering the filtering parameters. I have to say that I have never had any msg alter any parameters in my filters. I can't see how they could - but then we are dealing with computers. No the mesage details I use to filter on change ie instead of the from: being suse-linux-e@suse.com the list is changed to sle@suse.com
I suggest that you post your query in the appropriate Mozilla forum, either in the TB forum on the Mozilla site or in the TB newgroup available from Mozilla (not the Usenet). It is possible that there is a bug report re this or there may be a limit to the number of filters one can have before TB starts to get a headache. If you don't already subscribe to the TB newsgroup then I suggest going to the Forums at Mozilla. org, joining the Forums (otherwise you cannot post) and ask your Q there. Your reply also confirms what I was thinking that perhaps Mozilla 1.7.2 cannot handle the largwe number of filters I have. Adding myself to another high volume list(ie Mozilla) would seek me in email. I just hope
I am subscribed to over 100 mailing lists, but only receive from a few of them at a time ie 50. If I unsubscribe from a list, I like to uncheck the filter so that no junk mail is mistakenly filtered into the folder eg: if I were to unsub from this group but still receive from the others, I would not only use the unsubscribe commands but also disable my SLE filter so that no junk mail that meets the filter I have set, gets put into the folder. that TB or the new Mozilla/SeaMonkey in SuSE 10.1 can. Cheers
