Listmates,
Updated 11.0 to the latest kde4 tonight and we have an old problem that has reappeared. I have now started kde4 4 times (with reboots in between) to make sure this is really happening again, but alas. When you start compiz, the systray icons (the little guys) can't find there way back home and end up stuck all over the desktop (top-right corner usually).
This was a problem back in the kde3/compiz 0.5.8 time frame (a year ago or so), but I haven't had this problem since. Even restarting plasma-desktop doesn't do any good at helping the little guys find there way home. Oh well, bug report # 123 coming up....
Strange, Only workaround I have found is to stop compiz (kwin --replace &) so it doesn't try to start next time you log in, log out of kde, log back in, start compiz (you now have to restart plasma-desktop because kpager is messed up until you do [it just shows 1 big desktop]), the screen will probably hang as a black screen with nothing but the current application and superkaramba widgets showing, Alt+F2, then restart plasma-desktop a second time and the desktop will settle back into a usable state with compiz working perfectly, all the little guys in their home, and with kpager showing all 4 desktops like it should. It all works a little better if you stand on your left foot, wiggle your left ear and whistle Dixie while your doing it.... -- David C. Rankin, J.D.,P.E.
