Duaine has been around long enough that he doesn't need a lecture on how email works. He knows that. Don't be condescending. I know he's been around a long time. I also suspected that he knew how it worked, but his line of questioning seemed to indicate that he didn't.
I didn't intend to be condescending. I genuinely thought he didn't understand how e-mail works.
What he wants is that his email is deleted when he hits the delete button. That is not too much to ask is it? Apparently for AT&T/Yahoo!, it is. But that's not an openSUSE issue, and he seems to be getting frustrated and/or angry about people telling him that what he wants to do is apparently not the way it works.
He seems to be demanding that someone here fix a problem that nobody here is in a position to fix.
For the Record, Gmail gives you an option on how this works. You can set it in the Settings of the web interface here: https://mail.google.com/mail/u/0/#settings/fwdandpop Sure, I use gmail myself.
Can you guarantee, though, that the e-mail isn't stored anywhere on Google's systems after you tell it to trash it or "delete it forever"? I doubt it. Is it worth writing e-mails to a list that doesn't support gmail directly that gmail isn't working the way you expect it to?
Probably not.
Is it worth getting so worked up that you repeatedly write sentences like "AT&T is actually run by Yahoo - and - I don't want them there at all !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"? I would say no.
It can be set to go to Gmail's archive, or trash or be immediately deleted forever. This can happen for either Pop access or Imap access. Much as people like to rant against Gmail, they really give you a great deal of control, and their Imap actually works, unlike Yahoo's which sometimes almost works. And Duane wants it to work like that, but Yahoo! won't let it, apparently. Complaining to THIS list isn't going to change that.
Jim My apologies - I was just sounding out - to find out if I had something wrong in TBird - Ultimately, I badgered AT&T long enough to fianlly get at the truth - other than "we support email clients and/or Linux" crap.
I ask for your understanding - - it is just so DAMN frustrating thinking that - at one time it worked the way I wanted it to. P.S. In testing - I found out that email forwarding (on AT&T's part) to a gmail account - does NOT put the email in their TRASH folder <YEAH> Duaine -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
