So, I must have messed up something in some configuration. Since I don't recall doing anything, is there an easy way (perhaps that reinstall!) to reset GIMP and everything it uses to factory defaults?
If you don't have extra tools, paths (in GIMP meaning), pallets, your scripts, stored in directory ~/.gimp-2.4 , then your task is easy, delete it, and on next start GIMP will recreate all. Or maybe better, to have old directory handy: cd mv .gimp-2.4 .gimp-old24 and start GIMP.
