A few days ago, there was a new kernel update for openSUSE 12.1. Since then, I've noticed that my ThinkPad E520 will no longer shut off. Also, I'm unable to recover from sleep mode, after closing the cover. Has anyone else experienced this?
tnx jk
Hi, I had the same problem with the computer not shutting down properly after the kernel update. The way that I resolved it was to add
http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/Kernel:/HEAD/standard/
as a repository, then do a zypper dup. The kernel from this repository works great, and shuts down properly.
I like a bit of adventure in my life but when it comes to kernels I take a more cautious approach :-) .
I substituted the word 'stable' for the 'HEAD' in the above URL and use the kernel(s) which come from the 'stable' repo.
BC Hi, yeah, that's what everyone on this list says. But I haven't been bitten yet, so I boldly forge on ahead where others fear to tread.
Actually, the head kernels seem to work better on my problem Toshiba laptop. That's the one that the distro kernels won't operate the cooling fan. With the Head kernels, it sometimes works, depending on ......... I had already used the head kernel on my laptop in search of fan cooling, so I was reasonably assured it would work on my desktop computer. It did, and now the desktop shuts down normally besides. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse+owner@opensuse.org
