My 64-bit laptop is still running SuSE 9.3 taht i had installed at the actory about 6 months ago. I haven't had the guts to update for fear to clash with unknown non-standard h/w components. Andre Truter, whose name probably sounds familiar as he's a pretty active Linux registered engineer, has chacked my laptop h/d inventory and reassured me that its components (wire and wireless network cards, etc.) are known to SuSE database. ... still I'm shaking ... I need to start using Qt and COIN for building a 3-D GUI. Andre has suggested me to upgrade my O.S. to 10.0 first and then to 10.1 and use KDevelop to develop my GUI. I do hope the integration between Qt and COIN is starightforwatd. I know Qt comes with SuSE DVDs but I do not think COIN has ever been part of SuSE distro. I have used KDEVELOP in the past for some C++ s/w development (I think with SuSE 8.0) and know KDevelop has been changed a lot since then. So it'll be a lot of pain just to get started. Unluckily I work under a lot of pressure and have tons of things to do (just started my postdoc ...) Andre has been assisting me since I had my first SuSE 7.3 installed on my desktop. Of course he's constantly helping me. But given my present situation (i'm no more a student) he suggested me to get in contact with a local Linux SuSE group for assistance with the upgrading and set-ups. I've just joined the FermiLab and live in Aurora IL. I wonder if some nearby SuSE expert is amenable to help me through the above mentioned tasks. Actually I've contacted the local CompUSA, Best Buy, Circui City stores looking for SuSE Pro 10.0 and 10.1. Surprisingly they do not carry it. I've always got all new SuSE version at CompUSA in St.Louis MO as well as in Knoxville TN ... I've strte to downl;oad SuSE 10.0 but it's going to take forever ... I do not think thsi is the way to go for me. Where can find the familiar SuSE green box (I hope they haven't change its color in the meantime ) ? Thank you in advance for your assistance.
