Hi Jeff, I am in the same boat as you - I have plenty of Oracle experience on Linux and Solaris, but I have recently had to use DB2, and have really run into roadblocks into finding any useful docs about getting this beast to work on Linux (or any other platform). I suppose that I have been spoiled by Oracle's excellent books that get a person up to speed quickly with the database. In the case of IBM DB2, there are the IBM Redbooks available on the IBM site; but you'll find that you really have to struggle to get through them just to understand what is going on. I haven't gotten that far, yet. Everything I find that is a book about DB2 is geared towards certification, not towards getting something up and running for development. To make a long story short, I can't point you anywhere but the IBM Redbooks available online at ibm.com. If you find anything, please let me know. Hi, I'm experimenting with DB2 on linux, after having successfully used Oracle for a while. I can't seem to find any documentation for configuring the environment for db2. The default users work ok, but I can't find any information on configuring the environments of other users to access DB2.
I'm using a user other than the default DB2 users to develop a java app (with jdbc), but I clearly don't have the environment configured correctly. I have updated paths to include the DB2 binaries and library's, but can't even run the db2 executable from the command line as this user (see below).
SQL10007N Message "-1390" could not be retrieved. Reason code: "1".
This is becoming sorta frustrating as this is all quite straight forward in oracle, but not it seems with DB2.
Anyway has anyone experience with this, or could someone point me to documentation on the subject.
Thanks in advance.
Jeff
