Hi all, I have been keeping up with some of the discussion here, when the gentleman asked about image editing, etc. Then as the thread turned into a whining fest for Photoshop and the world will end if Adobe doesn't provide it for Linux, I started doing some research myself. Since any company that makes money from their software will admit, Linux scares them. And for good reason it should, because in fact Linux users have grown use to getting outstanding software for little or no money. As more & more folks move to Linux on the desktop, there will be more opportunity for those businesses to make money still with their software, but they don't seem to think that is the case just yet. Or at least some don't, there are exceptions it seems. Of course, we have an outstanding desktop publishing program available now, Scribus, which gets better with each day. We have Gimp for much of the graphics work, Inkscape for vector graphics, but apparently no graphics programs usable for image/photo editing? Or do we? CinePaint looks to have real possibilities, especially since most of Hollywood is using it for movies and high level film editing. There also seems to be a new guy in town that comes from the Amiga computer originally. Photogenics.HDR from Idruna Software. Here is an excerpt from their site: http://www.idruna.com/ "Idruna Photogenics HDR is the first 32 bit per channel floating point High Dynamic Range paint package for Windows and Linux. HDR images allow real world levels of illumination to be represented, which makes Photogenics essential for those working with film, digital cameras, and 3D rendering software..." There is a demo version available, Linux native it appears, which I haven't looked at yet. I have used Photogenics on the Amiga, but usually it's capabilites exceeded my needs. With the increased need for digital editing these days, this program sounds like it might just fit that "hole" everyone needs to fill. The actual program is a bit pricey, but I guess for those needing this type of software, it's just pocket change, especially if they have ever purchased Photoshop! ;o) Give it a look, Lee -- --- KMail v1.6.2 --- SuSE Linux Pro v9.0 --- Registered Linux User #225206 On any other day, that might seem strange...
