Also as I wrote, and one of my complaints. How can the non-.xz files be of any use (why do they clutter /var/log/, and why do they even exist?
Well, man, you should know the answer to that yourself, as they have been that way for a decade. It is the traditional method, and systemd is not involved at all with them.
I really don't think you understood my question. We know what .xz files are. Let's disregard the existence *.xz files in /var/log/, which is what I was trying to do. They are not my complaint, which is about about the presence of binary files that are not a compression of older text logs. -- "The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive."
