Maybe you could try "kodi". It is stand-alone, but many packages. The machine has to be powerful enough, depending on what you want it for, but there are Android versions.
Kodi is the front-end. tvheadend is the back-end. There are no Android back-ends that I am aware of. Not that I want one. mythtv tries to be both and as a result appears to be mind-bogglingly complex. Oh and thanks to your pointer to your discussion with Per last year.
