Estoy de acuerdo en un 100% con lo que dijo JP Rosevear, lo que está tratando de hacer Ubuntu es hechar mas FUD al asunto, y si nos enteramos de lo que hace Ubuntu y este Señor en particular con la comunidad podemos darnos cuenta de que lo que dijo es simplemente parte de la naturaleza de ellos. Parece que a Don Mark lo han desenmascarado... Pregunto: Los que pensaban pasarse a Ubuntu, despues de leer como obra el "patron" de la misma, siguen pensando lo mismo? Por otra parte, dudo mucho de que Don Mark esté en mejores condiciones de pagarles un mejor sueldo a los programadores pagos de Novell-Suse, y ese creo que es un factor decisivo. Yo pienso que la estrategia de don Mark es la misma que utilizó con Debian, el quiere programadores gratuitos. En este caso el quiere programadores de la comunidad SUSE y por eso está echando todo este FUD. Mark seguro que no quiere contratar más gente. Lo que este Señor está haciendo es tratar de sacar ventaja GRATIS a expensas de otros (en este caso SUSE) por una decision de Novell que NO AFECTA A LA COMUNIDAD OPENSUSE. El no está dispuesto a contratar gente para que trabaje en Ubuntu, el quiere las cosas gratis. JP R lo dijo: todo el equipo de Canonical es mas pequeño que el equipo que se dedica al Kernel en SUSE. Y es por eso mismo que me gusta SUSE, ellos incondicionalmente cualquier aditamento que trabajan para SUSE lo liberan para la comunidad. Alli tenemos el KInternet, el Nuevo Boton de Inicio para KDE, el Kerry Beagle, el nuevo menu para GNOME, XGL, etc etc etc. son personas que SI tienen el espiritu de COMUNIDAD totalmente contrario a los de Ubuntu que tratan de sacar ventaja a las otras distros al no financiar el desarrollo de nuevos proyectos y al no entregar el codigo de sus proyectos. Vamos a ver. La ética de cualquier "empresa" en estos tiempos deja mucho que desear. Lo malo que aquí se junta Novell+MS y tenemos dos, contra uno de Canonical. No me hace ninguna gracia ayudar a MS; aunque, como ya dije, voy a esperar para ver cómo es la versión 10.2. Por ahora he probado la 10.2 RC1 y tiene un montón de fallos, al menos a mí me los da. Pues te voy a contestar cortando y pegando algo que hace unas horas le escribí a quien me metió en SuSE y me enseñó definitivamente a conocer Linux. Un buen, amigo, un buen profesional, y un muy erntendido que me sugirío primero la idea de (K)Ubuntu, que está con SuSE desde la 6.x, Hola, ¿qué tal? Yo aquí haciéndome con (K)Ubuntu. Ya queda menos: - Aprender a recompilar paquetes deb. - Instalar la tarjeta de TV -debe ser inmediato, pero hay que poner un script en el arranque y no sé cómo hacerlo- - Instalar Sensors -No debe ser muy difícil- - Instalar klineak -Debe ser fácil- - Ver si el orden del menú de KDE en SuSE es cuestión de los de SuSE o alguna opción de KDE, pues lo encuentro muy desordenado en (K)Ubuntu. - Instalar timidity -¿?- El resto ya lo he conseguido. Si lo consigo casi todo, igual en diciembre pruebo la nueva Debian. YaST no está, pero una vez configurado todo, qué más da, ¿no? P.D.: Juan, escogí (K)Ubuntu porque pasar de ahí a Debian es bastante más fácil. Yo dije que me pasaría a Ubuntu _antes_ de que se firmara el acuerdo entre Mocosoft y Novell y me puse de plazo hasta finales de Enero del 2007 para darle una oportunidad a la SuSE 10.2 Sigo pensando exactamente lo mismo y la espera se me hace eterna. Pienso lo mismo fundamentalmente porque necesito un sistema _estable_ y _fiable_ y en esos momentos la 10.1 no lo es para mi. Es decir, me rijo por los resultados. si no funciona pongo otro que lo haga y sanseacabó. Yo no soy asalariado ni "fan" de ninguna distribución y ninguna me debe nada ni yo tampoco a ellos. Cada una tiene sus intereses y yo me atiendo a los resultados de sus productos. Es más, me cansa el tema del acuerdo entre M$ y Novell, pero me limito a borrar los mensajes y no me quejo MocoSoft ha hecho siempre lo mismo: comprar a las empresas y si no ha podido con ellas compra a los programadores y si no consigue ninguna de ambas cosas entonces va al sabotaje directo (como por ejemplo en el tema del gestor de arranque) y siempre, afortunamdamente y hasta ahora, se ha sobrevivido. Ya antes había firmado con Sun y ahora lo hace con Novell. Más que el acuerdo, me preocupa la gente que después de instalar la SuSE 10.1, por su fama de fácil, a las pocas semanas se vuelven al XP huyendo de SuSE y de todo lo que huela a Linux por su inestabilidad, poca fiabilidad y su plaga de errores "tontos".

En la misma explica, además de las implicaciones del acuerdo para esta empresa, el peligro que suponen las patentes de software y la cobertura que ofrece la GPL 3. Tal como el convenio se encuentra actualmente, traiciona a los autores del software que ustedes re-empaquetan y a sus usuarios de todo el mundo, sólo para el beneficio comercial de Novell. El acuerdo que propone la GPL es que, ante un agresor con patentes de software, debemos permanecer todos unidos para no fracasar por separado. Novell aceptó dicho acuerdo cuando decidió incluir el kernel Linux, la biblioteca GNU C, y cientos de piezas adicionales creadas, sin costo para Novell, por individuos de la comunidad del Software Libre y licenciados bajo la GPL. En su defensa, argumenta que Novell no ha reconocido que Linux viole patentes de Microsoft. Seamos honestos sobre las patenes de software: no puede haber ningún programa no-trivial, ni privativo ni libre, que no use métodos que sean cubiertos por alguna patente de software vigente y no esté licenciado para el uso en ese programa. Simplemente, hay suficientes patentes sobre suficientes principios fundamentales para que esto ocurra. Si todas las patentes se hicieran cumplir totalmente, la industria del software se detendría en el acto. Por supuesto, las patentes de software no se hacen cumplir ni mucho menos, y tenemos en cambio una especie de zaranda en la cual rutinariamente se reclaman formidables honorarios de abogados y daños. Las comunidades Open Source y las medianas empresas pueden verse impedidas legalmente de participar en la industria simplemente porque no pueden hacer frente al precio de la justicia, entre tres y cinco millones de dólares para defender un caso. Hace varios años, el abogado Daniel Ravicher, ahora perteneciente al Software Freedom Law Center, reportó haber encontrado 283 patentes que podrían aplicarse al kernel Linux. El kernel representa sólo un pequeño porcentaje de todo el software incluido en en Novel/SuSE Linux. Es probable que haya varios miles de potenciales violaciones no reclamadas en el sistema completo de Novell; sólo una minoría de esas patentes son poseídas por Microsoft. Su reciente acuerdo no hace nada para defenderse de los otros. Las más problemáticas son las poseídas por los "trolls de patentes", empresas que no producen más productos que patentes y por lo tanto no pueden ser desalentadas por contra-ataques de organizaciones como la OIN. Yo he sido quien ha hablado de inestabilidad. he dicho que nunca he tenido cuelgues raros en SuSE 9.2 ni en SuSe 10.0 y que he tenido un par de ellos en 10.1 No he dicho que no he contado las veces en que la 10.1 no ha conseguido levantar el escritorio

Hacer lo que le de la gana es una de las principales características de XP ya que forma parte de la filosofía de Microsoft, sin embargo XP no es un S.O. inestable si se mantiene su registro a unos niveles razonables y no se infecta con "hickjakers y malware". XP hace lo que le da la gana sin dar explicaciones y es muy inseguro, pero XP ya no es un SO inestable.

Ya te vale... ¿Y porqué tienes que borrarlos? Por unas cuantas docenas de megas... Pero tienes el archivo web de la lista. Incluso puedes bajarte el archivo mbox de todo el mes (de cualquier mes), de forma que lo puedes importar en tu cliente de correo y volver a tenerlos todos ;-)

Mmmm, que buena pinta tiene :) Matlab todavía no, pero Octave lo acabo de instalar con el yast y es casi igual. La verdad es que Matlab solo lo utilizo para preparar los laboratorios de mis "niños" y creo que con Octave me basta y me sobra para eso. ¡Ya me imagino utilizando esos 20Gb más de mi disco que antes estaban "inutilizados" ¡Adios MierdaSoft, hola Ubuntu! Si, si, Ubuntu, pero no me matéis. No es por crear más crispación pero en la vida hay que probar de todo. Además, tanto hablar, tanto hablar, me habéis hecho entrar la curiosidad y quiero probarla :-P

A ver, que no se me malinterprete. Evidentemente, dentro de una misma distribución hay versiones más o menos estables, que hacen cosas más raras que otras, etc. Pero creo que en la comparativa Linux Vs MS no hay color.

Yo dije que me pasaría a Ubuntu _antes_ de que se firmara el acuerdo entre Mocosoft y Novell y me puse de plazo hasta finales de Enero del 2007 para darle una oportunidad a la SuSE 10.2
Yo no veo razones técnicas para dejar de usar la opensuse - de momento.
La 10.1 no la tengo en productividad, no hay pues razones técnicas, son de salud: Me tiene mal de los nervios, no poderme fiar de ella me pone enfermo.
Más que el acuerdo, me preocupa la gente que después de instalar la SuSE 10.1, por su fama de fácil, a las pocas semanas se vuelven al XP huyendo de SuSE y de todo lo que huela a Linux por su inestabilidad, poca fiabilidad y su plaga de errores "tontos".
Yo los que conozco que no se vienen a linux es porque les asusta no poder hacer todo a golpe de ratón. Están demasiado acostumbrados al windows. Pues vale.
Nop, no es eso. Se lo dejas montado y con SuSE puede hacerse todo a golpe de ratón. Peor luego resulta que KDE tiene problemas, YAST te hace aficionarte al alcohol, OpenOffice (solo el de SuSE) falla y claro entre el aprendizaje y los "bugs" prefieren una vida tranquila ...

Inestabilidad y falta de fiabilidad. La inestabilidad si la he mencionado en ocasiones aunque es cierto que siempre la había atribuido a la targeta de video que no está soportada aunque después de verla funcionar al 100% con GNOME sin problemas aparentes estoy pensando en otras posibilidades. de cuelgues raros solo he tenido un par con la 10.1 (contra la 9.2 y la 10.0 en que no he tenido ninguno). De estos culgues raros no tengo datos, porque no me han ourrido a mi sino a mi hijo y los registros no me han aclarado gran cosa. La falta de fiabilidad es clamorosa con el binomio ZMD-ZEN y no creo que sea necesario extenderse.
Lo que si me dicen es la dificultad de hacer funcionar cantidad de hardware, a pesar de lo que diga Greg.
Esto es el problema de siempre, los fabricantes y los drivers. En este aspecto la 10.1 particionó discos SATA-2 sin ningún problema y nunca (y no soy persona de mucha suerte) he tenido problemas con las placas madre ni componentes (salvo los modems y alguna impresora).

MocoSoft ha hecho siempre lo mismo: comprar a las empresas y si no ha podido con ellas compra a los programadores y si no consigue ninguna de ambas cosas entonces va al sabotaje directo (como por ejemplo en el tema del gestor de arranque) y siempre, afortunamdamente y hasta ahora, se ha sobrevivido.
Ya antes había firmado con Sun y ahora lo hace con Novell.
Más que el acuerdo, me preocupa la gente que después de instalar la SuSE 10.1, por su fama de fácil, a las pocas semanas se vuelven al XP huyendo de SuSE y de todo lo que huela a Linux por su inestabilidad, poca fiabilidad y su plaga de errores "tontos".
Tienes alguna estadistica de tu ultima afirmación? Entoces me vas a decir que sos mas partidario de esta politica del titular de Ubuntu? (te las pego de un mensaje anterior, por si no lo viste): 1) Al tener una política declarada de no financiar el desarrollo de ningun software nuevo que sea importante porque el beneficio a la inversión no es lo suficientemente bueno. 2) Al prevenir que la persona responsable del Debian GNOME no actualice los paquetes de GNOME hasta después de que el Ubuntu LSO fue lanzado porque usted lo había contratado. 3) Al no publicar ningún código de fuente del launchpad/rosetta/malone para mantener una ventaja competitiva. 4) Al planear depender de la comunidad para el soporte de sus empresas que generan utilidad monetaria (Usted podrá decir que no lo está haciendo pero el tamaño de todo el departamento de canonical, la última vez que escuché, es más pequeño que el grupo que se dedica solamente al kernel en Novell/SuSE o RedHat... ) 5)Al tratar de suplantar la comunidad de Debian por "Ubuntu" y al mismo tiempo depender drásticamente de la comunidad de Debian para ser exitoso al mismo tiempo. No soy tan frío. Me rijo por lo que pienso y por lo que me ha pasado.

Te lo repito, me rijo por resultados. Si Ubuntu me funciona y hace lo que necesito de una manera _estable_ y _fiable_ pues bienvenido sea. Y si me da la vena nacionalista me probaré Mandriva, que está completamente traducida a mi idioma, y si es _estable_ y _fiable_ se quedará. Si no lo es, irá fuera aunque me cante "Els Segadors" cada mañana. En adición, yo no soy "partidario" porque no milito con nadie, con ningún partido, sea de futbol (que no me gusta) sea de política o sea informático. Eso si, tengo mis propios gustos y hay políticas de empresa que creo aceptables y otras que me disgustan profundamente, o como las de Mocosoft (cuyo S.O. también uso) que me repugnan profundamente. Si estoy usando Windows, creo que también podré usar Ubuntu de la misma manera que ahora llevo puesta una camisa de 6 Euros made in China hecha en base a la sobreexplotación laboral y probablemente del trabajo infantil. En definitiva "el capital" es así. Y si los que hacen dinero con Ubuntu la hacen de esta manera, desde el punto de vista del capital hay que felicitarles aunque yo prefiero que se gasten los beneficios en productos farmacéuticos, pero ello no me impedirá poner Ubuntu (o Mandriva) si s ajusta a mis necesidades. Me he quedado estupefacto al leerlo y me parece que hay mucho FUD en sus comentarios. Como bien le contestan en un correo, quien como programador/usuario no esté contento con openSuse/Novell sabe muy bien como pasarse a otras distribuciones, no hace falta que él venga a decirlo.
