Hallo! Linuxneuling benötigt Hilfe Inhalt: 1. Einleitung 2. gemischte NT und Linux Installation 3. Logitech WheelMan 4. Ghostscript 5. SMP unter Linux 6. Allgemein 1. Einleitung Ich habe mich für den Einstieg in die Linuxwelt entschieden und mir daher Suse 6.0 angeschaft. Bevor ich loslege möchte ich mich aber noch ein wenig schlau machen, damit ich nicht gleich bei jedem Problem stecken bleibe. Aus diesem Grund lese ich seit einigen Tagen diese Liste. 2. gemischte NT und Linux Installation Ich benötige durch meine Arbeit bedingt auch NT. Im Suse 6.0 Handbuch steht aber, dass Lilo NT nicht unterstützt. Ist dies richtig? Wenn ja welche Alternativen gibt es und wenn nein wie funktioniert es? 3. Logitech Wheelman Auch ich bin Besitzer eines Logitech WheelMans und wäre sehr dankbar, wenn man auch mir die Treiber, bzw. die Quelle zukommen lassen könnte, damit ich sie benutzen kann. Auch über Configscripts wäre ich sehr erfreut. 4. Ghostscript Die bei Suse 6.0 mitgelieferte Version unterstützt leider meinen Drucker HP Deskjet 400 nicht. Von eine Kumpel habe ich erfahren, dass Suse nicht die aktuelle Version mitliefert (aus welchem Grund auch immer) und diese zum Dowload anbietet. Da ich aber keine FTP Zugang habe benötige ich die genau Adresse um es mir per E-Mail zuschicken lassen zu können. 5. Ich finde jede Stimme ist wichtig, denn jeder hat andere Erfahrungen und andere Konfigurationen und ist daher eine potentielle Hilfequelle. Genau so funktioniert doch das ganze System, was durch solche Kriege nur uneffektiv wird. Also laßt doch bitte sowas und besinnt euch wieder auf den Sinn solch einer Liste. Bei mir funktioniert dies schon seit 5.2. Auszug aus meiner lilo.conf # Linux bootable partition config begins image = /boot/vmlinuz root = /dev/sda1 label = li # Linux bootable partition config ends # NT bootable partition config begins other = /dev/sda2 label = nt table = /dev/sda # NT bootable partition config ends # 95 bootable partition config begins other = /dev/sda3 label = 95 table = /dev/sda # 95 bootable partition config ends Wie du siehst sind dies allerdings alles SCSI Platten. Ob dies so einfach auch mit IDE funktioniert, kann ich dir nicht sagen. Der Bootmanager von NT meldet sich erst wenn ich die NT-Partition angesprochen habe.
4. Ghostscript
Die bei Suse 6.0 mitgelieferte Version unterstützt leider meinen Drucker HP Deskjet 400 nicht. Von eine Kumpel habe ich erfahren, dass Suse nicht die aktuelle Version mitliefert (aus welchem Grund auch immer) und diese zum Dowload anbietet. Da ich aber keine FTP Zugang habe benötige ich die genau Adresse um es mir per E-Mail zuschicken lassen zu können.
Dein Drucker sollte aber auf jeden Fall allgemein als Deskjet angesprochen werden können.
5. SMP unter Linux
Unterstützt der Kernel von Linux(2.0.36 oder 2.2.0.-pre4) SMP standardmäßig oder muß ich ihn dazu neu kompilieren?
Der Kernel 2.0.36 kann dies standardmäßig nicht. Um einen neu kompilierten Kernel kommst du also nicht herum. Ist aber eh zu empflehlen um Linux an deine Hardware anzupassen. Im Makefile sind 2 Einträge zu bearbeiten, die ziemlich am Anfang stehen. Für weitere Informationen muß ich dich auf die SMP.txt verweisen. SMP = 1 (ist normalerweise auskommentiert) # # SMP profiling options SMP_PROF = 1 (ist normalerweise auskommentiert) Läuft bei mir mit 2 PII266 recht stabil. Wie es mit dem 2.2.0.-pre4 aussieht, kann ich dir nicht sagen, da ich noch mit dem "altem" arbeite.
6. Allgemeines

chön...aber setze Dich bitte nochmal mit der Idee bzw. Philosophie auseinander, welche hinter Linux steckt. Keiner möchte Dir Linux aufzwängen, sondern DU hast Dich für ein Betriebssystem entschieden, welches von keinem Hersteller zentral hergestellt und vertrieben wird, sondern von unzähligen Leuten in Privatinitiative erstellt und gepflegt wird. Das heisst, ohne eigene Bereitschaft, selber was zutun, funktioniert hier gar nichts.

Lies bitte nochmal S.110 Suse 6.0 Handbuch....da steht, wie es geht... wenn es nicht allzuviel ausmacht, bitte noch die Seiten 1-110 und Seiten 111-519 !

1.Bist Du Dir sicher, das Du Linux benutzen willst? Wenn Du die Treiber und sonstiges von irgendjemanden so aus heiterem Himmel ohne Eigeninitiative zugeschickt bekommen möchtest, dann bleibe bei einem sogenannten "herkömmlichen" Betriebssystem, wo ein Hersteller mehr oder weniger alleinverantwortlich das Betriebssystem herstellt und vertreibt. An den kannst Du dann auch solche Anfragen stellen. 2.funktioniert diese Maus auch erstmal als stinknormale Maus, ohne besonderen Luxus.Also zum grundsätzlichen Betrieb von Linux und/oder X-Window ist erstmal nichts Besonderes notwendig. Beherzige vielleicht erstmal die vorherigen Worte, dann installierst Du Linux evtl. und kommst dann dahinter, das solch relativ grundsätzlichen Informationen in "Nichtpapier"-Version dem Betriebssystem beiliegen. Aber das kann man ja nicht wissen, wenn man Linux nach Windowsmanier installieren möchte (Handbuch goto Mülleimer...).

Hast Du schon irgendwann mal Dein Druckerhandbuch gecheckt und vielleicht bemerkt, daß Dein Drucker vielleicht zu anderen kompatibel ist? Wie sollte Linux überall in der Welt funktionieren und drucken, wenn es nur eine Handvoll Drucker unterstützt (in der GS 5.50 zwar ein paar mehr), es aber auf der Welt Hunderte von verschiedenen Druckern existiert. Funktionieren etwa ein paar Drucker ähnlich, wenn nicht sogar gleich? Lies es bitte nach! Im Druckerhandbuch und im Handbuch der Suse 6.0 S.282-289 (Siehe auch im Register des Handbuchs).

Man kann nicht alles wissen, aber wenn man noch nicht mal unter Windows was mit FTP anfangen kann, wird's unter Linux nicht besser. Ich selbst beschäftige mich schon länger mit PC's an sich. Mein Wissen zum Internet, Linux usw. ist noch nicht SO alt. Allerdings gibt es Bibliotheken mit nicht ganz so aktuellen Büchern, die einem aber erstmal das Grundsätzliche vermitteln. So bin ich es angegangen. Auch im deutschen Teil des Web's sind ALLE Informationen vorhanden, auch für Anfänger jeder Coloeur. Man muss sich nur bewegen. Ohne das ist hier auf der Liste keiner bereit, Dir unter die Arme zu greifen.

Aha, und wie sieht es hier mit der Effizienz aus, wenn alle nur Tips wollen und keiner gibt? Hier hat jeder mal bei Null angefangen, bloss wo kommen dann die ganzen Tips her? Aus dem Nichts? Bitte nehme es nicht allzu persönlich, aber denk mal drüber nach. Ich meine, dass dort auch für andere Betriebssysteme alles bereitliegt. Jetzt habe ich aber auch mal eine Frage: Hat jemand nähere Bekanntschaft mit mars_nwe gemacht und kann mir da ggf. weiterhelfen? Konkret: Ich (Linux-Neuling) hab's unter Suse-6.0 tatsächlich ans Laufen gekriegt und kann von meiner DOS-Kiste als Supervisor alles an Dateioperationen auf dem Server machen. Was ich aber ums Verrecken nicht hinkriege, ist die Verwaltung von Trustee-Rechten über SYSCON. Ich kann User anlegen, kann denen Rechte und sogar ein LoginScript zuweisen, aber ich muss immer erst auf der Linux-Seite den entsprechenden Verzeichnissen mehr Rechte einräumen, damit die User auch darauf zugreifen können. Dann kann aber *jeder* User auf diese Verzeichnisse zugreifen und das will ich vermeiden. Wenn ich die Docs richtig verstanden habe, soll es möglich sein, auf Linux-Seite mit minimalen Rechten auszukommen und diese dann via Syscon von DOS aus zu erweitern!?!?! Ich habe seit Weihnachten schon viele Stunden rumexperimentiert, jetzt weiß ich aber nicht weiter. Ziel der ganzen Aktion ist ein (Billig-)Server für unseren Computerraum, in dem immer noch einige DOS-Anwendungen laufen müssen. Samba scheidet für diese Zwecke aus, da zu viel Speicher für die TCP/IP-Geschichte unter DOS draufgeht. M.f.G. Das stimmt so nicht ganz. Man kann NT 4.0 sehr wohl mit LILO booten. Nur wenn LILO in den MBR installiert wird, kann es Probleme geben, da LILO die Informationen des NT-Festplattenmanagers im MBR überschreibt, und dieser umgekehrt LILO zerstört. Solange man den Festplatten- manager nicht verwendet, sollte es auch keine Probleme geben. Besser ist es LILO in den Bootsektor der Linux- Rootpartition zu installieren, wenn das möglich ist. Diese muß dann nur aktiviert werden. Das läßt sich problemlos mit YAST einrichten. Für NT kann man DOS booten aus- wählen, die NT-Partition wird aber mit F3 nicht angezeigt, so daß man die zu bootende Partition selber eintippen muß. Hallo Bernd, Die Informationen sind etwas dürftig, um damit etwas anfangen zu können. Folgende Informationen wären dazu notwendig: 1. Die Partitionstabelle (mit Žfdisk -lŽ unter Linux anzeigen lassen) 2. Wie wurde LILO installiert ? 3. Wurde der NT-Festplattenmanager verwendet ? 4. Ist die NT-Partition mit NTFS oder FAT formatiert ? Vermutlich bekommt man NT wieder zum laufen, wenn man den MBR neu schreibt. Dazu mit DOS-Diskette booten und bei MSDOS Žfdisk /MBRŽ eingeben bzw. bei Novell-DOS ŽfdiskŽ aufrufen und ŽNeuschreiben des Master-LadesatzesŽ anwählen. Mit DOS-FDISK aber auf keinen Fall die Partitionierung verändern. Um LILO neu zu installieren, Linux von CD oder Diskette booten und ŽInstalliertes System startenŽ auswählen. Yast starten und LILO neu konfigurieren. Für NT ŽDOS bootenŽ auswählen, und die richtige Partition von Hand eintragen (F3 zeigt hier die NTFS-Partitionen nicht an). LILO nicht in den MBR, sondern in den Bootsektor der Linux-Rootpartition installieren. Die Frage, ob die Parition aktiviert werden soll, mit JA beantworten. Dann sollte es wieder funktionieren.
