Simply type

ftp ftp.suse.de

...

instead of

...

ftp open ftp.suse.de

It's still the same error, I think the Client can't resolve The hostname, when I use the IP he still can't find and say:

ftp: connect: Network is unreachable

check your network settings: defaultroute, maybe the DNS is outside your local network, then dns can't work.

But when I use the IP it should work!?? The DNS ist located outside of our Network, is there any possibility to make the entrys visible for the local Maschine? Maybe use a DNS Cache? I need the access to the CVS now, but we get our own DNS-Server in two Months!
