Willst Du das wirklich? gtk+-1.3.5 ist eine Entwicklerversion! Ich würde es nicht, sondern auf das Programm verzichten. Sehr viele Programme verwenden Gtk und könnten dadurch instabil werden bzw. nicht mehr laufen. Richtig, nur ist gtk+1.3.x so ausgelegt, dass es sich parallel zu gtk >= 1.2.9 installieren lässt. Parallel-Installation zu gtk < 1.2.9, d.h. Standard-SuSE-7.1 ohne Gnome-1.4-Updates ist nicht möglich.
Man könnte jetzt Fragen, warum unter Linux nicht mehr Entwickler Binarys ausliefern.
Erstens kann man einem Entwickler die Arbeit nicht immer zumuten, RPMs für unterschiedliche Distris zu bauen. Es ist gar nicht möglich, da das vorraussetzen würde, dass die Entwickler alle existieren Linux-Distributionen zur Verfügung hätten. Zwar lassen sich in Einzelfällen RPMs- oder Binaries weitgehend distributionsunabhängig gestalten, im Regelfall jedoch nicht.
Er programmiert in seiner Freizeit und kostenlos und es ist allein seine Entscheidung, in welcher Form er sein Programm zur Verfügung stellt. Da die meisten Pakete nicht auf Linux beschränkt sind, ist tar.gz des Quellcodes Standard. Paketierung und Anpassung auf ein OS (Linux/Solaris/FreeBSD), bzw. eine Linux-Distro (RPMS/debs u.ä.) ist Aufgabe der Distris oder Fleissaufgabe für Freiwillige.
