[opensuse-translation] Translations for Plasma-pk-updates
Hi, As you know the Plasma desktop has since the release of Leap a new updater instead of Apper. The new package is plasma-pk-updates and has been created by the makers of the plasma networkmanager. The applet seems to work fine, but doesn't have any translations. I have checked out the source and fortunately the source has been prepared to work with translations, so I have the .pot files for it. At the moment there are two pot files (one for the setup dialog and one for the plasmoid itself) I found an old page on the openSUSE wiki indicating the procedure to ask for translations of a new program. I am not sure how up-to-date this page is but it indicated that I should first send an email to this mailinglist. Since the end of the openSUSE boosters, a small group of the openSUSE community took over and we have been struggling to get control of that account. We want to either remove that email address or to get the right people as part of it. Tomas Chvatal is currently helping us arranging this.

Could you send me directly a list of these KDE related files ? I can then validate them if they are still required and if not we can clean them up.

As indicated I am trying to get the point of view of the upstream developers and where they want to go with this package. I agree that we shouldn't waste precious time of people. So I will not submit the file until I know what is going to happen upstream. I think you mean the other way around. The problem was that the upstream translations were not being used (they were silently removed). However, this problem has recently been fixed (except for KDE wallpaper files, for which I’ve filed a bug). My vote would for Plasma-pk to go to KDE, and get translated there. The problem with translations not used at all is very recent (not more than one release ago), I was talking about a really old long-standing problem, for which the update-desktop-files-conflicts.<LC>.po was created. If you are not aware of it then it means you are lucky to not doing LCN translations long enough.

OK. I see there is a update-desktop-files-conflicts.pot file (and corresponding .po files) in lcn, but this currently has no strings. Normally now we have weblate, so we can just hook it up and be done. But as this is KDE project why not simply add scripty and let it be populated to kde translation system? Normally now we have weblate, so we can just hook it up and be done. But as this is KDE project why not simply add scripty and let it be populated to kde translation system?

At this moment I know for sure that Fedora is also using the package, but this is logical as one of the developers is part of Red Hat. I checked their package, but it doesn't contain translations. It could be that they have a separate package that provides translations. Will check that one out.

But of course in the long term a better solution is needed.
I have just dropped an email to the authors with the question how they want to continue and if it would become part of the KDE infrastructure in the future. Normally they are quite fast in replying, so let's see what they come back with. Otherwise I will go the correct way and make the pot files available for translation and then pull the po files separately for the package. It seems we have a long-term solution as that since yesterday the package is officially living in the KDE infrastructure. This would mean that it would be translated by the KDE translation teams. I am not sure what this will mean if the package itself will be providing the translations or that we have to pick them up ourselves, but we will see.
