[opensuse-translation] Problems with update-desktop-files-kde.it.po
Hi all, I'm translating into Italian the lnc/po/update-desktop-files-kde.it.po file. Watching the changes between my last version (39512) and the svn head (41534), besides the fuzzy and untranslated strings, I've discovered a lot of new/modified translated strings with errors or strange behaviors. In fact, I've found mainly these problems: - some strings are translated into different strings even if they are relative to the same msgid of the same file - some new and modified strings contain grammar mistakes or do not match the singular/plural of msgid (while original translations was right) - some translated strings are replaced with untranslated ones - some translated strings are replaced with wrong ones - some modified strings seems to be replaced by strings generated by an automatic translator - some modified strings contain words that do not exists in Italian - some modified strings do not follow standard Italian translations (see http://en.opensuse.org/Translation-it#Elenco_delle_parole_di_uso_comune_e_lo... ) - some modified strings contain fuzzy words or now they are ambiguous Are the above problems specific for Italian translation or they occurred also for other languages? And only in update-desktop-files-kde.it.po file or also in other update-desktop-* files (I've not checked them because they are not assigned to me)? Another thing: what is the better thing to do now? Check the whole file looking for strange/wrong strings (because problems are inside the "translated" strings, and they are a lot) or only the strings changed by last commits? This because there is few time to correct the above problems before the next packaging... I don't think there are desktop files with plural
- some translated strings are replaced with wrong ones This is due to the preference to upstream translation. I guess you need to contact the upstream italian translators.

A string that does not follow standard translation:

Repository is always translated as "sorgente di installazione" and not as "deposito"
Not in KDE. both in kde3 and kde4 it's deposito. And I guess "KDE Repository" has little to do with installazione - if that's the italian word for installation or software.
For ambiguous strings:

The new string can be retranslated as "System settings". Probably the best translation for this string is "Impostazioni personali" (without "di sistema")
Again: it's the string from kdebase's workspace.
And for fuzzy strings:

Stephan, your last update (revision 42503) has broken again the update-desktop-files-kde.it.po file, reintroducing again all old errors I've corrected at revision 41743. I've asked to kde-it-translation ml how to solve problems and we agreed to correct wrong strings in parallel for this time and to agree for common translations for opensuse 11.2, because there was few time to correct errors upstream and I did not know if there was another merge from kde upstream. Actually, I don't understand which is the source of your last update: is it kde-upstream or what? Karl, I can not assure you that wrong strings are corrected before tomorrow evening... I've reviewed it quickly (looking for old wrong strings) and it seems ok. There only was a new fuzzy string that actually was not fuzzy. Ok, good. It's translated in trunk - but those translations didn't make the beta Amarok release I guess. My bad.
