[opensuse-translation] What's the deal with opensuse-org.po?
Hi, I just had the time to take a look at opensuse-org.po and I'm a little bit confused. 1.) First entry is 'en' (comment: type: Attribute 'lang' of: <html>; file en/index.shtml:2) - Am I supposed to translate it to my locale country code? Say for Germany to de? 2.) Fifth entry is "search in blog-posts" (untranslated), when I look at opensuse.org I already find that string translated into german. Accident/Purpose? 3.) Many entries consist of large html syntax fragments, where I'm not sure what to translate. Shouldn't it be possible to just extract the parts that need to be translated? Should the value="en" be translated to value="de" in the following example? (4th entry) "<input type="hidden" name="language" value="en" /> <select id="searchscope" name="searchscope">" Is there anything that needs to be translated in the next example? (9th entry) "</select> <input type="text" name="searchstring" class="textfield" /> <input type="image" alt="run search" title="run search" class="searchbutton" src="http://static.opensuse.org/hosts/www.o.o/images/frontpage/magnifier.png" />" Hope someone can help to clarify this :-) Regards, Michael

Yes, use de for German.
2.) Fifth entry is "search in blog-posts" (untranslated), when I look at opensuse.org I already find that string translated into german. Accident/Purpose?
The "de" PO file is (was?) not enough translated to be used (under 50% translated, we do not use it), so old file manually translated is used and leaved untouch.
3.) Many entries consist of large html syntax fragments, where I'm not sure what to translate. Shouldn't it be possible to just extract the parts that need to be translated?
Unfortunately no.
Should the value="en" be translated to value="de" in the following example? (4th entry) "<input type="hidden" name="language" value="en" /> <select id="searchscope" name="searchscope">"
Yes.
Is there anything that needs to be translated in the next example? (9th entry) "</select> <input type="text" name="searchstring" class="textfield" /> <input type="image" alt="run search" title="run search" class="searchbutton" src="http://static.opensuse.org/hosts/www.o.o/images/frontpage/magnifier.png" />"
You can translate "alt" and "title" values but it is not very important since it is a bit hidden.
Hope someone can help to clarify this :-)

Hi Guillaume, thank you very much for your clarification, it really helped :-) It's quite unfortunate that it's not possible to make it clearer, but I guess that's a limitation of the surrounding framework and not really worth the trouble to work around it. -- Kind Regards, Michael

I tried various tools with numerous options and we have the best (but not perfect) framework to use PO files for translation of the website. Maybe if some tools are updated or new tools appear, we could have something better. We have to send a request to maintainers (Thomas Schmidt
and maybe others?) with the languages to update so that they make an update of the pages on the server. You can send your request here and CC Thomas.
I've translated opensuse-org.po for Danish (DA). So please add it to the website at your convenience. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-translation+owner@opensuse.org

There were no DA folder on the landing-page git repo, so I created it and generated HTML files from the "da" PO file. But more things must be done, like adding it in languages.html and maybe more before pushing to web server?. Thomas may help here. Same for the german translation.
The Dutch translation has been ready since 2012-06-07. -- fr.gr. Freek de Kruijf -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-translation+owner@opensuse.org

All PO files with more than 50% translated are already used to generate HTML files. We just need someone who is able to push it to webserver. Guillaume -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-translation+owner@opensuse.org

Thomas, could you put it online?
Could you please add the new languages to languages.html? So that they are visible in the language dropdown. Are they regenerated regularly? I found I had made a very nasty mistake in "da" :-( -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-translation+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-translation+owner@opensuse.org
