Second phase of the test. Thunderbird does not remove the footer block. Alpine does remove it. New Thunderbird bug?

That's a Thunderbird bug, complain to them. They attach the PGP *KEY* file to every email and can not be disabled.
Yes, there is a bugzilla on it.
And if you were using GMX, you would see 18 KB, because GMX adds a huge anti-spam block:
