One unnoticed side effect of disallowing HTML on our lists has been to also get rid of virtually all spam (that was not caught by spamassassin). In the migration, we did not copy over the HTML ban, and for the last couple of weeks I have been seeing an influx of mails from non-members. These are then reported for moderation once a day, to me. See also progress.o.o, ticket #80620 I _personally_ believe our ban on HTML is a bit old-fashioned, and I think we ought to accept HTML, but with the above, I am beginning to have my doubts. I have enabled to filtering here, amongst other to see what the reject message looks like. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.2°C) Member, openSUSE Heroes.

Perhaps disable html from non subscribers directly, allow from subscribed? :-D -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

[-- Error: unable to create PGP subprocess! --] no, just disable HTML. simpler solution and unneeded extra traffic, and weight. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode

We intentionally did not copy over the ban on HTML because I have experienced issues with subscribing and sending/receiving mail from my corporate address with that policy in the past. I know of others who have been similarly blocked because of that. -- 真実はいつも一つ!/ Always, there's only one truth!

Hmm, that is not good. I would not have expected the list filters to apply to administrative messages. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (2.7°C) http://www.hostsuisse.com/ - virtual servers, made in Switzerland.

Unfortunately not an option offered by mailman. :-) -- Per Jessen, Zürich (2.6°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - free dynamic DNS, made in Switzerland.

I have been contacted directly several times over the years by people that could not subscribe to the mail list (if memory serves), or that could not post. Often the cause was "html". -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.1 x86_64 at Telcontar)

Right now, only anything post 10 November is interesting.

subscribing and posting are really two very different things. Even with mlmmj, I don't think the list filters apply to list commands. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (2.4°C) http://www.dns24.ch/ - your free DNS host, made in Switzerland.

They did with mlmmj, but that's not an issue for Mailman. The issue is preventing people from posting because of usage of HTML email or MTA forcibly injecting and converting the email to HTML. -- 真実はいつも一つ!/ Always, there's only one truth!

They did with mlmmj,
Really ? I guess I never tried it.
but that's not an issue for Mailman.
Yeah, I have just tried it, subscribing with an html message, no problem. -- Per Jessen, Zürich (1.7°C) http://www.cloudsuisse.com/ - your owncloud, hosted in Switzerland.

I have also been contacted directly after that date for problems with the new lists, which I managed to to answer sufficiently for them :-) But not with the html rejection issue, no new posts about that.

Yes, it happened with html, (mlmmj) people that could not subscribe or ask for help with subscription. People tend to ask someone whose name they see frequently in the list ;-) Specially on the Spanish mail list. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
