[opensuse-support] [Tumbleweed] How often should I update?
I've just switched from Leap to Tumbleweed on my Entroware laptop. So far so good. One question - how often should I run 'zypper dup'? Are updates announced anywhere? Yes, on factory list.
Thank you. -- Bob Williams System: Linux 5.3.18-lp152.20.7-default Desktop: KDE Frameworks: 5.71.0, Qt: 5.12.7 and Plasma: 5.18.5 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

I update daily, but 3 days to once a week would probably suffice. Depends on your usage pattern. -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet freenode -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

there is a "tumbleweed-cli" rpm https://review.tumbleweed.boombatower.com/about.html this will stick you some days (weeks) to one tumbleweed version. i use it to do not have toooooo often to update, and, if i have to install additional software from opensuse, i have not first to update the whole system..... if its still actual (it will hold about 10 tumbleweed versions) and you are able to roll back (not really a roll back, because of the configuration files, but for the system) https://review.tumbleweed.boombatower.com/ here you could get some infos about the actual version. very bad is, the bug reports at his page are not working for a long time, (there is a bug report also) but nobody seems to fix it. before this bug it was a great place to check if the actual version have had big or only small problems. simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org
...and by the way, do always a "rpmconfigcheck" after "dup" (or "tumbleweed update") to check what config files have changed. ..and modify them to your needs. (or delete old and use new config files.) if you do not do this, you could (will at some point) run into problems after some updates, (maybe days, maybe years). simoN -- www.becherer.de -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-support+unsubscribe@opensuse.org To contact the owner, e-mail: opensuse-support+owner@opensuse.org

I wonder if there is a wiki page, or a chapter in doc.opensuse.org, explaining the best practices for handling of tumbleweed. - -- Cheers, Carlos E. R.
