Problems with websites not reachable

Most likely, since one of the last upgrades of Tumbleweed, I am having problems connecting with several websites. All opensuse.org websites {forums, downloads, www}, to mention a number are unreachable. They give a timeout in Firefox. When I try to connect from my telephone with Firefox to one of these sites, I get a connection. Also when I use Leap 15.3 the connection gets established. I can connect to other websites, but also other websites are unreachable. Anyone else having this problem? Could it be an IPv6 problem? -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf

I also had this problem with my laptop using wireless connection. I switched to the Ethernet connection and problem was solved. Perhaps a problem with the wireless driver. Ken Schneider

Strange thing is that I can connect OK from my smart phone with Tumbleweed to forums.opensuse.org from the same home network. Also when I use Leap 15.3 this works, so it must be something in Tumbleweed. Another strange thing is that I can connect via IPv6 to other sites. Could it be something with an OpenSSL version? After a suggestion in the bug report I used Wireshark to analyse the traffic to download.opensuse.org. What I see is that the connection is made using IPv6 and tried to get a repomd.xml. I do get data, but it looks as if the acknowledgement gets stuck. BTW, this is using http, not https. My system sends acknowledgements, but the other side does not answer any more. Also connecting to forums.opensuse.org with Firefox does not work, however the connection with Firefox to bugzilla.opensuse.org works. I tried the same with Chrome and got the same result. When I do this with Leap 15.4 Beta it all works. So it must be something in Tumbleweed. Unfortunately using zypper to up(gr)(d)a(d)(t)e does not work because I can't reach download.opensuse.org. -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf

I use Tumbleweed and have no problem connecting to forums.opensuse.org or download.opensuse.org with firefox and/or brave and on either wired or wireless using both wicked and/or NetworkManager. so maybe it is not "something in Tumbleweed", but something local to your installation(s). -- (paka)Patrick Shanahan Plainfield, Indiana, USA @ptilopteri http://en.opensuse.org openSUSE Community Member facebook/ptilopteri Photos: http://wahoo.no-ip.org/piwigo paka @ IRCnet oftc What sort of day was it? You can upgrade TW by changing the URIs in /etc/zypp/repos.d/*repo to specific mirrors instead of download.opensuse.org URIs. If https://mirrors.opensuse.org/ is reachable you can chose from it. In case it's unreachable for you, these are a few I've used for OSS.repo from here in SW USA: http://ftp5.gwdg.de/pub/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/oss http://ftp.uni-erlangen.de/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/oss http://www.gtlib.gatech.edu/pub/opensuse/tumbleweed/repo/oss http://provo-mirror.opensuse.org/tumbleweed/repo/oss -- Evolution as taught in public schools is, like religion, based on faith, not based on science. Did that; I could upgrade Tumbleweed, but it did not change the problem. During the upgrade, apparently, I could have a connection with download.opensuse.org. I also did the same in Leap 15.3 and I got the same problem. Tried it also on my laptop with Tumbleweed and Leap 15.3; worked OK. The only difference I could image was that on my laptop I am using NetworkManager with automatic, so DHCP, settings of IP addresses, but on my desktop I use NetworkManager with fixed addresses. So I tried also automatic on my desktop and it WORKS!!!!!! After that I restored fixed addresses and now it works ALSO!!! The difference however is that I now have a few more IP addresses next to the fixed ones. The strange thing is that the .nmconnection file did not change The main cause, in my view, is that my provider changed the IPv6-prefix of my network connection and the IPv4 address. I did change the fixed IPv6 address after the change in IPv6-prefix. So the solution was to use the NetworkManager client to configure Automatic addresses, make it work, and change it back to fixed addresses. -- fr.gr. member openSUSE Freek de Kruijf
