Wanted: Software Tool Package for video conferences in openSUSE Leap 15.2 ff
Hi, On the "darkside software world" :-D there is mostly used Zoom, with many known critical aspects in relation to vulnerability e. g. such as: ... https://support.zoom.us/hc/en-us/articles/360044350792-Security-CVE-2020-976... https://talosintelligence.com/vulnerability_reports/TALOS-2020-1055 ... and apart from costs, privacy, etc... Within this e-mail I would like to inquire, if there is a software project for the use on openSUSE. I've heard e. g. about Jitsi-Meet see here: https://jitsi.org provided at: https://github.com/csett86/jitsi-meet-electron/releases/ Another question is, if there are "hybrid" solutions for the combined use of clients that have different software world bases that are non browser based. Most invitations come with a link to Zoom, what to do if you have an openSUSE system and want to participate? Kind regards M Be Free, Be Linux

Download the openSUSE RPM from zoom, create /opt/zoom with permissions for your user, open the zoom rpm with ark, extract the contents to /opt/zoom, sudo ln -s $PWD/ZoomLauncher /usr/bin/zoom, sudo ln -s /opt/zoom/install/zoom_openSUSE_x86_64/usr/share/applications/Zoom.desktop /usr/share/applications Then you can avoid running any untrusted scripts as root. -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B
@Simon Lees after following your instructions: 1) download of zoom_openSUSE_x86_64.rpm 2) create /opt/zoom with user permissions 3) extract the content of zoom_openSUSE_x86_64.rpm to /opt/zoom with ark --> /opt/zoom/zoom_openSUSE_x86_64 with two subfolders /opt and /usr 4) symbolic link sudo ln -s $PWD/ZoomLauncher /usr/bin/zoom can be carried out 5) the next step sudo ln -s /opt/zoom/install/zoom_openSUSE_x86_64/usr/share/applications/Zoom.desktop /usr/share/applications does not work correctly! the sourcepath is not existing what to do to run the program?

Lets try and find it, there is a fair chance it could have moved since I last used zoom quite some months ago. Run `find . -iname "*.desktop"` in a shell and hopefully it will find it.
what to do to run the program?
If you get step 5 to work it should show up in your application menu, otherwise you should be able to open a shell and type zoom to run it -- Simon Lees (Simotek) http://simotek.net Emergency Update Team keybase.io/simotek SUSE Linux Adelaide Australia, UTC+10:30 GPG Fingerprint: 5B87 DB9D 88DC F606 E489 CEC5 0922 C246 02F0 014B

The symlink is broken. Wrong destination. However, do not try to open a binary program, there is no point in that. The idea was to open the .desktop file to find out which one was the executable instead of using "grep". -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E. R. (from 15.2 x86_64 at Telcontar)
