Of course, but it is easy to make mistakes. Not every mail program offers a button to "reply to list". The alternative is "reply to all", then remove the direct address, leaving only the mail list address. But the intuitive method is to click "reply" which goes direct to the sender.

Lists should require a handle but never show email addresses by default, don't know if this can be set in preferences.
