Before sending this I tried one more time lpr out. That generated a new error message:

I found a way to set a default from localhost/printers, and the error returned to
lpr: Unsupported document-format "text/plain"
What exact command line did you use?
lpr out
And what is "out", a text file? It is preferable that you copy paste from terminal directly, do not try to describe what happens. Like this: cer@Telcontar:~> lpr felix lpr: Error - unable to access "felix" - No such file or directory cer@Telcontar:~> cer@Telcontar:~> file felix felix: cannot open `felix' (No such file or directory) cer@Telcontar:~> file p p: ASCII text cer@Telcontar:~> It seems to me that your CUPS installation is borked... -- Cheers / Saludos, Carlos E.
