i don't like the idea of installing hundreds of packages which i actually shouldn't really need (they are only recommended, aren't they?).
YaST is not Zypper and Zypper is not YaST. My understanding: YaST's no-recommends equates to Zypper's onlyRequires # grep r.only /etc/zypp/zypp*f /etc/zypp/zypp.conf:## Whether only required packages are installed. /etc/zypp/zypp.conf: solver.onlyRequires = true I've been using solver.onlyRequires = true since years before finding YaST's no-recommends able to cut down the initial installed package count. -- Evolution as taught in public schools is religion, not science.
