YouTube moved to HTML5 in 2015 and Flash will be discontinued altogether by the end of this year.
AFAIK, I don't recall reference, they were/are? keeping both formats, serving according to browser's selection or so? There are also browser extensions allowing You to choose (I haven't tried any myself). It might be way to go?
Yes. They did not /move/ to html5, but they provided both html5 and flash, and they started generating whatever internal file they use for html5. But they had both formats available. I know this for certain because I played youtube videos in flash no more than a year ago. It is on record on the mail list somewhere, if memory serves. And now they are phasing out flash completely. I hope. It is possible that if the browser is set to inform the server that it has flash, and if the web or whoever decides does decide to choose flash, then there is a blockade and the video will not play.
Could this be solved by add-on like <https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/addon/ youtube-flash-html5/> or similar? -- Vojtěch Zeisek https://trapa.cz/ Komunita openSUSE GNU/Linuxu Community of the openSUSE GNU/Linux https://www.opensuse.org/
