Anybody knows something?
I have oS 11.0
Check the output of 'antivir --version'. It could be that the license key is expired. You'll get all sort of weird behavior then (sadly without telling you the reason why).
The key is no longer needed, as far as I know. nimrodel:~ # antivir --version 7.9.1.35 operating system: Linux (glibc 2.2) product version: 2.1.12-208 engine version: 7.9.1.35 packlib version: 7.6.1.19 (supports 34 formats) vdf version: 7.1.6.95 Warning: the file "antivir.vdf" is more than 14 days old product: AntiVir Workstation key file: personaledition_classic.key registered user: Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic serial number: 0000149996-PXWSE-0001 key expires: 02 Sep 2010 run mode: PERSONAL product: AntiVir (command line scanner) key file: personaledition_classic.key registered user: Avira AntiVir PersonalEdition Classic serial number: 0000149996-PXWSE-0001 key expires: 02 Sep 2010 <============================= run mode: PERSONAL nimrodel:~ # Anyway, the file is dated a month ago: - -rw-r--r-- 1 root root 1024 Oct 11 11:21 /usr/lib/AntiVir/personaledition_classic.key - -- Cheers, Carlos E. Avira has changed to a new major version of their virus scanner a few weeks ago. The old version is now deprecated and you should find according hints in your logs. Updating the old version is dependent on luck and takes a lot of time. Download the new version, that should solve your problem. The new version has some new features like mail notifications for missing updates and the like. That was something I had to script for the old version. Better delete the entire /usr/lib/AntiVir directory and start fresh with the new installation. Updates are no longer downloaded by "antivir --update", it is replaced with the command: /usr/lib/AntiVir/avupdate --product=Guard Just set up a cronjob to run the command. Another change is that integration into amavisd-new is no longer working, I found a working setting in the forum: ### Avira for UNIX 3.x ['Avira AntiVir', ['avscan'], '-s --batch --alert-action=none {}', [0], qr/FUND:/, qr/FUND: ([^;.]+) ;/m ], There are several other changes like the quarantine home directory. You need to change the setting in /etc/avira/avguard.conf and /etc/avira/avscan.conf to: QuarantineDirectory /var/spool/amavis/virusmails/ Otherwise you get errors and complaints in your logs. Aside from that you need the usual settings to change the notification email address and such. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-security+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-security+help@opensuse.org

Thanks a lot for the info, but maybe I am missing something and have a question. It seems to work now with amavis only with avguard installed, which requires a daemon running, and as far as I have found, also requires the dazuko kernel module. Amavis shows the antivir fails looking for avguard daemon. Am I missing something? The older version did not require a daemon nor kernel module to virus scan email. -- Joe Morris Registered Linux user 231871 running openSUSE 11.1 x86_64 -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-security+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-security+help@opensuse.org

The new version does need to have avguard running, but it does not need the dazuko module if you only use it inside of Amavisd-new. Without the module it merely logs a warning that on-access scanning is not available. Warning: No dazuko module available, on-access protection disabled. That is no problem since amavisd-new always uses on-demand scanning. -- To unsubscribe, e-mail: opensuse-security+unsubscribe@opensuse.org For additional commands, e-mail: opensuse-security+help@opensuse.org
